The holiday cottages are located in the small village of Alderwasley, two miles from Wirksworth. The area is relatively undiscovered and unspoilt, and yet you are only a mile or so from the A6 and can easily travel to Matlock and all the well-known Peak District attractions.
If you do one of the many fine walks direct from the cottage, you may walk for miles without meeting another soul.
We particularly like Shining Cliff woods for dog walking as there are no cows, no sheep and no roads!
The dog friendly Bear Inn is less than half a mile away across the fields, and you can enjoy stunning views from the beer garden. The pub serves good local beers and home cooked food.
Wirksworth is a quirky little town with a surprisingly rich art and music scene. See the page on Wirksworth for more information.
The nearby Derwent Valley Mills area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where the modern factory was born. Imposing mill buildings can be seen in Belper and Cromford.
Within around a half hour drive, you can visit Chatsworth, Kedleston Hall, Haddon Hall and Hardwick Hall.
