We are Roz Watkins and Rob Walker, and we bought Pendleton Cottage in late 2011 after falling in love with the house and the whole beautiful area.
Our house is on the same site as the two holiday cottages so we are on hand if you need anything. But we are not too close, so you can enjoy the privacy of your detached cottage.
We have very much enjoyed exploring the local area – there is a lovely view around every corner! Roz has become a bit of an expert on the local footpaths and best places for walking, both with and without dogs. See our favourite walks on the right – most of them are direct from the holiday cottage.
There is so much to do in this area – not just the walks but the rich history in the Derwent Valley World Heritage site and the numerous country houses, not to mention the pubs and restaurants. We are really just beginning to discover the area, and we’d love to hear about your favourite places.
Roz loves the area so much she is writing a series of crime novels set around here. The first book, The Devil’s Dice, involves the discovery of a body in a cave house in some woods rather similar to the ones you might explore on your walks if you visit… It was The Times crime book of the month and has been optioned for a TV series by ITV. You can find out more on Roz’s website. The second book, Dead Man’s Daughter, came out in April 2019 and book 3, Cut to the Bone, in June 2020.
